In 2005 Swiss doctors have published a report that provides statistical data on the death rate from cardiovascular diseases in the world. Professor of the University of Lausanne Fabio Levy and his colleagues processed the data of the World Health Organization for thirty-four countries of the world, and came to a rather sad conclusion for Russia. The results of the study show that in Western Europe over the past twenty-five years, the death rate from heart disease has decreased by an average of 32%, and from stroke by more than 50%. In Russia, mortality rates from cardiovascular diseases have increased and are more than three times higher than the European average.

Russia took first place in mortality from these ailments, ahead of the former leader – Romania. 57 percent of our fellow citizens die from diseases of the heart and blood vessels. There is no such indicator in any developed country of the world.
The statistics for Russia looks simply amazing: out of every 100,000 people, we annually lose 330 men and 154 women from myocardial infarction, and 204 men and 151 women from strokes. In total, 1 million 300 thousand people a year die from cardiovascular diseases every year – the population of a large regional center. The lion’s share here belongs to coronary heart disease and arterial hypertension with its complications.
In this scenario, in a few years, our country can lead the list of world powers, and there will be no more opportunity to turn a blind eye to this problem. Among the EU countries, the first two places are shared by Finland and Ireland.
The United States, Australia, New Zealand and Japan have made the most significant gains through lifestyle and dietary changes. The promotion of a healthy lifestyle and the cessation of smoking and alcohol have done their job, and in these countries the problems of “cores” are gradually fading away.
The question arises: “Are we going the same way, dear comrades?”
